Eligibility Criteria
The general requirements for the Emory University Scholar Programmes are as follows:
- Applicants should choose one of the three admission decision plans (Early Decision I, Early Decision II, or Regular Decision)
- Submission of all required application materials by November 15 (or November 1 for Early Decision I)
- Answer “yes” to the question regarding merit scholarship consideration on the application
- Application is open to all students, regardless of citizenship
Required Documents
International applicants must meet all first-year admission requirements and demonstrate English proficiency and financial capability, and other documentation as follows:
- English Proficiency Requirements: Applicants whose primary language is not English must show proficiency in written and spoken English through TOEFL iBT or iBT Home Edition (100), C1 on the TOEFL ITP, IELTS 7.5, DuoLingo 130, or other approved tests:
- SAT: 700+ Evidence-based Reading and Writing score
- ACT: 30+ English subset score
- International Curriculum: Competitive curricula include International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), and British A-Levels. Other national systems are also recognised as having strong preparation.
- Financial Aid for International Students: Need-based financial aid is available for a select group of international students each year. Applicants for financial assistance must submit accurate financial documentation.
- Proof of Sufficient Funds: International students must provide proof of sufficient funds to cover expenses, such as a bank statement or financial institution note. Those applying for financial aid should complete the Documentation of Finances accurately.
- US Immigration: Admitted students should wait for visa documents before travelling. All international students must register as full-time students each semester, except for summer. A valid passport or official travel document is required.
- Insurance: Medical insurance is mandatory. Enrolled international students are automatically included in Emory’s Accident and Sickness Insurance plan unless they have equivalent coverage.
- Additional Materials: Additional materials, such as resumes or digital portfolios, can be uploaded through the Emory applicant portal. Mailed materials like printed books and CDs are not accepted, but digital submissions are encouraged.

Selection Process
- The Admission Office and esteemed faculty are responsible for the selection process
- Roughly 8,000-10,000 students apply annually
- The university selects approximately 175-200 students as Scholar Programme Finalists
- Finalists must attend an on-campus Scholars Finalists Visit in the spring
- Activities and interviews during the visit help finalists become better acquainted with Emory University
- Applicants not selected as finalists are still considered for other merit-based scholarships and admission
How to Apply?
- Select one of the three admission decision plans (Early Decision I, Early Decision II, or Regular Decision).
- Submit all supporting application materials by the deadlines (November 15 or November 1 for Early Decision I).
- Indicate your interest in being considered for merit scholarships by answering “yes” to the relevant question on your application.
- No additional nomination forms, essays, or materials are necessary for the scholarship application.
- Await notification of finalist status by the end of February and, if selected, participate in the on-campus visit in early April.
