The Columbia Centre for Political Economy at Columbia University is seeking full-time postdoctoral research scholars starting July 1, 2025. Scholars will conduct independent research while contributing to the Centre’s initiatives under the guidance of faculty co-directors and Idea Lab leads.
Applications are invited for topics aligned with the Centre’s four Idea Labs:
- Work and Labour: Focuses on labour markets, worker power, and labour movements.
- Firms and Industrial Policy: Studies firm behaviour to inform innovation and shared prosperity policies.
- Money and Finance: Examines monetary systems, financial instruments, and central bank policies.
- Political Economy of Climate: analyses how political and economic factors shape climate policies, focusing on forests and fossil fuel-dependent communities.
Winning scholars will receive funding for up to one year, with a possible one-year extension, and will help organise seminars, conferences, and public events related to their Idea Lab.
Launched in 2022, the Centre promotes innovative economic research and policy through its Idea Labs, fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary solutions.

Eligibility Criteria
The requirements to apply for these positions are as follows:
- Application is open to candidates from all countries worldwide.
- Applicants must hold a PhD, JSD, or equivalent degree in social sciences, history, or law (completed or near completion by the start date)
- Have a strong research background in one of the Center’s focus areas
- Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary political economy research
