There is a scholarship (or many scholarships) out there for everyone. Every student has some skill, interest, experience, or characteristic that may make them an attractive candidate for one scholarship or another. And while we often refer to scholarships as “free money,” scholarships don’t come for free. It takes work to thoughtfully consider your strengths and research the scholarships that might be most appropriate for you. While the effort that goes into finding and winning scholarships may be akin to a part-time job, we at College Coach want to make your job a little easier. This ongoing scholarship series highlights a new scholarship each week. Check out the below, along with the other posts in the series, and you may discover a funding resource that will make covering that college bill a little (or a lot!) easier.

The Stamps President’s Scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship offered to the top 1-2% of incoming applicants to Georgia Tech. Recipients do not need to be residents of Georgia, and half the annual recipients are non-residents. While academics do play a big part in the selection process, other factors, like leadership and community service, are taken into consideration.

What to Expect as a Stamps President’s Scholar

While full scholarships are awarded to Stamps President’s Scholars, the programme aims to achieve much more than just financial support. The four-year programme fosters the growth and enrichment of scholars’ experiences. The program’s ultimate objective is to produce leaders who, throughout their lives, will make it a point to give back the inspiration and advantages they have received. These leaders will be guided by the perspective gained from these experiences.

The full programme includes:

  • A full-ride scholarship covering tuition, mandatory fees, housing, meal plan, books and academic supplies, personal expenses, and a stipend during the first year for a laptop.
  • $12,000 enrichment funding for pillar-based international experiences, unpaid internships, unpaid research, conferences, etc.
  • Mentoring for each cohort by two dedicated professors known as Faculty Guides.
  • Annual cohort retreats, including one outdoor leadership Tech Trek. Trek destinations have included breathtaking areas of Alaska, Belize, Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Montana, the Minnesota Boundary Waters, and Scotland.
  • Academic Search for Knowledge (ASK) Expeditions, including outdoor adventure and urban study, planned by students and professors. Recent destinations include the Balkans, Argentina, Cyprus, Yosemite/California, and South Africa.
  • One-on-one mentoring from professors, programme staff, alumni, and current scholars.
  • Access to special speakers, employment opportunities, dinners, and receptions.
  • The complete Georgia Tech and Atlanta experience. From arts to athletics, music to museums, and technology to theatre, Atlanta and Georgia Tech together afford opportunities that can only come when a traditional campus is in the heart of an international city.
  • Priority housing during your first year.
  • Access to the Stamps Scholars network—a national programme of talented scholars with whom you will be able to interact at conventions, conferences, and more.
  • Opportunity to attend a biannual Stamps Scholars National Convention with scholars from nearly 40 universities across the country.

How to Apply

Apply to Georgia Tech no later than October 15th. In mid-January, students are selected as semifinalists and invited to campus to interview in February, with no exceptions made for alternate interview dates. Semifinalists are expected to submit additional materials for review. In March, finalists are invited back one more time for additional interviews and activities. This weekend is also mandatory for finalists. A timeline can be found in the FAQs.
